About Rhythm Energy

Rhythm Energy is a Houston-based retail electricity provider that serves customers across Texas’s deregulated electricity market. Founded in 2020, Rhythm is a newer provider than many of the state’s established electricity brands and offers electricity plans in the major competitive utility territories.

Rhythm has built its brand around renewable energy, straightforward customer service and a more modern electricity experience. All of its residential plans are backed by 100% renewable energy, and the company offers features such as online account management, usage tools and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Its plan selection includes traditional fixed-rate options as well as more specialized plans for customers interested in time-of-use pricing or solar buyback.

Rhythm Energy Plans and How They Work

Rhythm sells four residential structures, and which one suits you depends mostly on whether you can shift when your home uses electricity.

PowerShift — Time of Use

What it is: Rhythm’s flagship plan splits the day into pricing periods, charging its lowest energy rates across a wide off-peak window and more during peak demand.

What to consider: It pays off when you can move heavy loads — laundry, pool pumps, EV charging — out of peak hours, and it works against you if your usage is concentrated exactly when the grid is busiest.

Simple Fixed Rate — Fixed Rate

What it is: One flat energy charge at every hour of the day, held for the length of the term.

What to consider: This is the part of the lineup you can hold directly against current Texas electricity rates, because nothing about the price depends on timing your usage.

PowerShift Solar Buyback — Solar Buyback

What it is: A plan for homes with rooftop panels that pays bill credits for excess electricity exported to the grid, alongside time-of-use pricing on what you draw.

What to consider: Eligibility is limited to residential arrays under 20 kilowatts, and the value turns on your export volume and the credit terms rather than on the advertised rate.

Peak Payback — Demand Response

What it is: An optional program that pays bill credits when you let a connected smart thermostat ease back your usage during grid peaks.

What to consider: It requires a compatible smart thermostat and a willingness to let short adjustments happen automatically, so the trade is a little comfort for a credit.

For any plan, the Electricity Facts Label shows how the price is calculated at different usage levels.

Where Rhythm Energy Is Available

Rhythm Energy is available in most areas of Texas where customers can choose their electricity provider. Its own service-area list covers Houston and the Gulf Coast, Dallas–Fort Worth and nearby suburbs including Arlington and Plano, plus Waco, Corpus Christi and McAllen.

Depending on where you live, your electricity is delivered by Oncor, CenterPoint Energy, AEP Texas or Texas-New Mexico Power. Rhythm sells your electricity plan, while your local utility delivers the power and handles outages. Enter your ZIP code to see Rhythm plans available at your address.

Where you should go depends on whether you are shopping, already a customer, or without power.

New Rhythm customers

If you are still choosing a plan, start by comparing the Rhythm plans and rates available for your address — what you can buy depends on your service address, so begin with your ZIP code. Rhythm takes new-service calls on 1-888-492-0217, and sells directly at gotrhythm.com.

Existing Rhythm customers

Rhythm residential customer service is 1-866-951-5701, open Monday to Friday 8am–8pm and Saturday 9am–3pm Central. Sign in to Rhythm MyAccount, email support@gotrhythm.com, or use Rhythm’s contact page.

Power outages

Do not call Rhythm to report an outage. Report it to your local utility, which owns the lines and restores service — Rhythm directs outage reports the same way on its own contact page.

Rhythm Energy Reviews

Power Texas rating: 4 out of 5 stars

We give Rhythm Energy 4 out of 5 stars for making 100% renewable energy the default across its lineup rather than a paid upgrade, for publishing its variable-rate pricing history when most providers do not, and for a 30-day test drive that lets a new customer leave without an early termination fee. Its usage alerts and smart-meter reporting are unusually good for a company of its size. The main drawback is that the lineup leans on time-of-use pricing, which only rewards households that can genuinely shift when they use power — and Rhythm is a younger, smaller company than the incumbent Texas brands.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas tracks complaints involving retail electricity providers. You can view current provider complaint information directly from the PUCT.

Switching to or from Rhythm Energy

You can switch to Rhythm when starting service at a new address or when your current electricity contract ends. If you are still under contract with another provider, check for an early termination fee before switching. Some Rhythm plans include an early termination fee reimbursement, which can help cover the cost of leaving your current provider early. Check the specific plan terms to see whether reimbursement is included and how much Rhythm will cover.

If you are leaving Rhythm, check your contract for its end date and any applicable early termination fee. Rhythm’s 30-day test drive may also allow newer customers to switch away without an early termination fee during that period. If you are moving, different rules may apply, so check your contract before canceling service.

Rhythm Energy FAQs

Yes. Rhythm sells 100% renewable electricity across its residential lineup, sourced from Texas wind and solar, rather than offering renewable as a premium upgrade on some plans. Renewable content is matched with renewable energy certificates, which is how every retail provider in Texas substantiates a renewable claim.
PowerShift is Rhythm’s time-of-use plan. Instead of one rate all day, the day is split into pricing periods, with its lowest energy rates during the many off-peak hours and higher rates during peak demand. It rewards households that can move heavy usage such as laundry, pool pumps or EV charging outside peak hours.
Yes. Rhythm offers a solar buyback plan that pays bill credits for excess electricity your panels send to the grid. It is aimed at residential solar arrays under 20 kilowatts of capacity, so confirm your system qualifies before enrolling.
Rhythm publishes a 30-Day Test Drive that lets a new customer leave within the first 30 days without paying an early termination fee. Terms sit with the individual plan, so confirm them on the plan you enroll in.
Rhythm serves competitive areas of Texas in the Oncor, CenterPoint Energy, AEP Texas and Texas-New Mexico Power delivery territories. That covers Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, the Gulf Coast and South Texas, but availability depends on your specific service address rather than your city.
